UN R169: Proposal for a Supplement 2 to the original version

Proposal to amend para. 4.1. to condition approval on meeting requirements in para. 5., insert new paras. 4.2. to 4.2.4. to establish approval criteria for vehicles up to 12,000 kg maximum mass equipped with deployable occupant restraint systems meeting UN R160 01 or later, requiring equivalence demonstration of EDR triggering performance for vehicles of 8,000-12,000 kg derived from M1 or N1 vehicle types through manufacturer determination of restraint deployment thresholds and physical or simulation testing, renumber former paras. 4.2. to 4.6. as paras. 4.3. to 4.7., amend para. 6.2. to specify communication of approval confirmation or refusal to Contracting Parties, and amend Annex 3 heading to reference paras. 4.5. to 4.5.1.

31. The expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands on behalf of IWG on Event Data Recorder/Data Storage System for Automated Driving (EDR/DSSAD) introduced ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2026/21, to clarity for approval of vehicle types with a maximum mass between 8,000 and 12,000 kg.. GRSG adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2026/21, not amended. The secretariat was requested to submit ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2026/21 as draft Supplement 2 to the original version of UN Regulation No. 169 for consideration and vote at the November 2026 sessions of WP.29 and AC.1.
32. The expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands presented GRSG-131-07, aligned with the Step 2 workstream, and announced that it would be further developed by the IWG. He also invited comments to support the preparation of an official proposal for the October 2026 GRSG session.
