Excerpts from session reports
GRE | Session 94 | 27-30 Apr

47. The experts of the Task Force on Autonomous Vehicle Signalling Requirements (TF AVSR) briefed GRE on their activities (GRE-94-23). GRE noted the ongoing TF AVSR discussions on the development of a new hybrid Regulation on Automated Driving System (ADS) Marker Lamps and remaining open questions, in particular possible pulsations of marker lamps.

48. OICA presented their position paper and highlighted safety, security and implementation concerns on ADS marker lamps (GRE-94-44). OICA suggested that ADS marker lamps should not be mandated before Contracting Parties would have justified their need and intended use cases. On the other hand, FIA supported ADS marker lamps as helpful for other road users to identify vehicles that are in automated or autonomous driving mode (GRE-94-16). Several experts pointed out the need to consult WP.1 on the application of ADS in the framework of the Vienna and Geneva Conventions on Road Traffic.

49. The Chair concluded that TF AVSR should continue technical discussions on ADS marker lamps. In parallel, WP.1 and WP.29 should be invited to provide guidance on their deployment in traffic, while leaving a final decision to Contracting Parties. GRE noted that the Chair would include this topic in the GRE highlights that would be presented at the June 2026 session of WP.29.

50. The expert from SAE updated GRE on the ongoing review of standard SAE J3134 “Automated Driving System Marker Lamp” (GRE-94-47).
