50. The representative of France presented considerations (GRVA-23-09) on the possible improvements of AEBS Regulations, based on lessons noted from a fatal crash in Paris and on the media reports highlighting false positives in real driving conditions leading to concerns. He mentioned that hundreds of reports were submitted to the French market surveillance authority. The representative of OICA recalled that pressing the acceleration pedal was one of the way to suppress undesired AEBS intervention. He noted that speed of the vehicle involved in the crash mentioned (140 km/h in urban conditions) and wondered whether the main cause of that fatal accident was related to the AEBS regulations. Several delegations called for addressing the issues in phases. GRVA agreed with the organization of a workshop in January 2026 to explore the data available and advise GRVA on possibilities to consider for improving the AEBS regulations.
