14. The co-Chair of the informal working group presented the first outcome of discussions held during the March WP.29 session in 2012 on design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to harmonize minimum guidelines (WP.29-157-06). The World Forum agreed to refer WP.29-157-06 to its subsidiary bodies for detailed consideration at their next sessions. WP.29 will make a final review of the revised document at its March 2013 session. The World Forum noted that no meeting of the informal working group on ITS was scheduled for this session.
31. Referring to the request of WP.29 agreed at its June 2012 session (see ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 14), GRB considered a proposal (WP.29-157-06) on design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to harmonize minimum guidelines tabled by the informal working group on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and adopted it without comments.
(a) Template for the submission of official documents
35. GRSG noted the new instructions adopted by WP.29 at its June 2012 session (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 12) and the updated template for the preparation and submission of official documents by WP.29 and its subsidiary bodies (WP.29-157-01-Rev.1). The secretariat invited all experts to use this template and to follow the instructions as listed on the website.
(b) Abbreviations and acronyms used in UN Regulations
36. GRSG noted that the same acronyms have been used in the past in different Working Parties with different meanings which led to confusion (e.g. “RESS”). WP.29 had recommended establishing a list of acronyms to avoid confusion. The Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) had started this work with GRSP-51-03. Following the discussion, the Chair suggested resuming discussion on this subject at the next session of GRSG under a specific agenda item. He invited all experts to think about their preparedness to take over part of this important task.
(c) Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
37. GRSG noted the request by WP.29 (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1085, para. 19 and ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 14) for consideration of harmonized requirements for high-priority warning signals (GRSG-103-15) and on design/control principles (WP.29-157-06) of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). GRSG agreed to give detailed consideration to this subject at its next session under a specific agenda item.
52. GRSP noted the request of WP.29 to its subsidiary bodies to provide comments by June 2013 on a proposal for design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (WP.29-157-06). It was also noted that the expert from OICA provided first draft comments (GRSP-52-02) on the proposal. GRSP agreed to resume discussion on this subject at its May 2013 on the basis of a consolidated proposal of amendments provided by the expert from OICA. GRSP requested its experts to send comments concerning GRSP-52-02 to the expert from OICA by 25 January 2013.
81. Following the request of WP.29, the Chair of GRPE invited participants to contribute with technical comments on the design/control principles of ADAS (WP.29-157-06) to harmonize minimum guidelines. Responding to this invitation, the expert from OICA introduced GRPE-65-23 and suggested considering the guidelines as a list of recommended practices in the regulatory process rather than mandatory requirements. The expert from CLEPA supported this position.
82. GRPE noted the comments expressed.
36. The expert from OICA introduced GRB-57-04 (amending WP.29-157-06) on design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to harmonize minimum guidelines tabled by the informal working group on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). GRB invited all experts to provide their comments to the expert from OICA by the end of February 2013.
28. The Chair recalled that WP.29-157-06, dealing with design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), was referred to GRRF and the other subsidiary bodies of WP.29, for detailed consideration. The expert from OICA introduced GRRF-74-12 proposing a list of comments on this issue. GRRF reviewed this document and agreed on the comments. GRRF decided to correct on page 3 in the first paragraph “recommended requirements” by “[minimum] [recommended] requirements”.
41. Referring to the request of WP.29 at its June 2012 session (see ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 14) to provide comments on WP.29-157-06 (Design principles for control systems of ADAS), GRE endorsed GRE-68-23.
44. Upon the request of the World Forum WP.29, (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1085, para. 19 and ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 14), GRSG considered a proposal on harmonized requirements for high-priority warning signals (GRSG-103-15) and on design/control principles (WP.29-157-06) of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). GRSG noted no comments on GRSG-103-15. The expert from OICA introduced GRSG-104-20 proposing a number of amendments to WP.29-157-06. GRSG endorsed the proposed amendments. The Chair volunteered to inform WP.29 on the results and requested the secretariat to submit GRSG-104-20 to WP.29 for consideration at its session in June 2013 (see WP.29-160-10).
50. GRSP confirmed that GRSP-52-10 already included the amendments agreed upon by its experts on the proposal dealing with design/control principles of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (WP.29-157-06) and no further comments were provided.
22. The World Forum noted the final draft (WP.29-160-15) of the design principles for control systems for Advanced Diver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which included the comments received by GRE (WP.29-160-03), GRSG (WP.29-160-10), GRB and GRSP (WP.29-160-23) and GRRF (WP.29-160-24). The World Forum adopted WP.29-160-15 with the modifications indicated below. WP.29 agreed to transmit it to the Working Party on Road Safety (WP.1). It was also agreed that the World Forum would decide, at its next session, how the adopted design principles would be published, either as an annex to R.E.3 and to S.R.1 or as a final document.
Throughout the text for “minimum [provisions/recommendations]” read “main recommendations”.
