GRSP | Session 51 | 21-25 May 2012

46. GRSP resumed consideration of the initiative of the Working Party on Pollution and Energy (GRPE) to have all definitions and acronyms present in the Regulations under its responsibility so as to avoid misconception when these were used in other Regulations. Accordingly, the expert from EC introduced GRSP-51-03, listing all those present in the current texts of UN Regulations annexed to the 1958 Agreement. In the same time, the expert from France, Chair of the Informal Working Group on CRS introduced GRSP-51-28, listing all the acronyms and definitions from UN Regulation No. 44. GRSP, requested its experts and the Chairs of the informal working groups to send comments about GRSP-51-03 to the expert from EC before the deadline for submission of official document (see para. 49) of its December 2012 session.

GRSG | Session 103 | 2-5 Oct 2012

(a) Template for the submission of official documents

35. GRSG noted the new instructions adopted by WP.29 at its June 2012 session (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 12) and the updated template for the preparation and submission of official documents by WP.29 and its subsidiary bodies (WP.29-157-01-Rev.1). The secretariat invited all experts to use this template and to follow the instructions as listed on the website.

(b) Abbreviations and acronyms used in UN Regulations

36. GRSG noted that the same acronyms have been used in the past in different Working Parties with different meanings which led to confusion (e.g. “RESS”). WP.29 had recommended establishing a list of acronyms to avoid confusion. The Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) had started this work with GRSP-51-03. Following the discussion, the Chair suggested resuming discussion on this subject at the next session of GRSG under a specific agenda item. He invited all experts to think about their preparedness to take over part of this important task.

(c) Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

37. GRSG noted the request by WP.29 (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1085, para. 19 and ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1097, para. 14) for consideration of harmonized requirements for high-priority warning signals (GRSG-103-15) and on design/control principles (WP.29-157-06) of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). GRSG agreed to give detailed consideration to this subject at its next session under a specific agenda item.

GRRF | Session 73 | 18-20 Sep 2012

39. GRRF noted that acronyms have been used in different working parties with different meanings which lead to confusion. (e.g. “RESS”). To avoid such confusion it has been recommended to establish a list of acronyms. The Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) had started this work with GRSP-51-03. GRRF agreed to resume discussion on this subject at its next session.

GRSP | Session 54 | 17-20 Dec 2013

36. GRSP recommended that the Chairs of its IWGs send comments to the expert from the EC on the provisional list of acronyms (GRSP-51-03). GRSP agreed to resume consideration on this subject for the last time at its May 2014 session.

GRSP | Session 56 | 9-12 Dec 2014

42. GRSP agreed to submit GRSP-51-03 to the March 2015 session of WP.29, as the contribution of GRSP to a living informal document of the World Forum (permanently appended in its website) gathering acronyms of UN Regulations and UN GTRs.

GRRF | Session 75 | 17-19 Sep 2013

43. Recalling the discussion at the previous session on abbreviations and acronyms used in UN Regulations, GRSG noted that the UN Regulations under the responsibility of GRSG have a very different scope with any link to other Regulations and do not use same definitions. Therefore, GRSG decided that there was no need for such a list of abbreviations and acronyms.

48. The expert from the Russian Federation, recalling the purpose of GRSP-51-03, offered to send to the secretariat a list of acronyms compiled by his administration. The expert from UK offered her support to the Russian expert. GRRF agreed to revisit this item at its next session.

GRSP | Session 53 | 13-17 May 2013
