70. The representative of Australia introduced GRVA-20-09 (superseding ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2024/27), proposing a new UN Regulation on Emergency Lane Keeping System (ELKS) based on the existing requirements in the European Union Regulation 2021/646. The representative of OICA supported the proposal. The representative of Japan welcomed the proposal as ELKS was an effective system for increasing safety. He mentioned that these systems could also provide value in urban environments, at lower speeds than those included in the document. He volunteered to join meetings on this topic, if any.
71. The representative of China proposed editorial amendments (GRVA-20-35) to the proposal. The representative of OICA proposed, as an alternative, to delete the definition in para. 2.6. The representative of China welcomed this alternative.
72. GRVA agreed to resume consideration of this proposal (GRVA-20-09) based on an official document that the representative of Australia agreed to prepare.
