Proposal to amend GTR including:

  • Amendment to the scope

  • Addition of new harmonized provisions for physical dimensions of LT/C tyres (new Section 3.5.2; old Sections 3.20 & 3.21 deleted)
  • Addition of new harmonized provisions for high speed test for LT/C tyres (new Section 3.6.2.2, old Section 3.16 modified with endurance test only and renumbered 3.9, old Section 3.19 deleted)

19. On behalf of the Informal Working Group on the UN Global Technical Regulation No. 16 on Tyres (IWG Tyre GTR), the expert from ETRTO introduced a draft proposal for amendment No. 2 to UN GTR No. 16 (Tyres), together with a technical report (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRBP/2019/20, ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRBP/2019/21, GRBP-70-02, GRBP-70-17-Rev.1, GRBP-70-18-Rev.1). GRBP adopted the technical report and proposal, as modified by Annex V, and invited requested the secretariat to submit these documents to the March 2020 session of the Executive Committee of the 1998 Agreement (AC.3). GRBP thanked the Chair, Secretary and all participants of the IWG Tyre GTR for their dedicated work.

42. The GRBP chair mentioned that GRBP had adopted a new series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 59 (Replacement silencing systems) and a draft technical report and Amendment No. 2 to UN GTR No. 16 (Tyres). He also indicated that the recently established Informal Working Group on Wet Grip Performance for Tyres in a Worn State (IWG WGWT) would be co-chaired by France and the European Commission.

56. Submitted for consideration and vote Amendments 2 to UN GTR No. 16 – Tyres (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2020/41, ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2020/42, and ECE/TRANS/WP.29/AC.3/48) were adopted on 24 June 2020 by consensus vote of the following contracting parties present and voting: Australia, China, European Union (representing Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom), India, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, San Marino, South Africa and Turkey. Canada, Tunisia and United States of America abstained from voting.
