This is a proposal to introduce a new HID category (D9S) into Regulation No. 99 with dual-level operation, i.e. with two defined wattage values and corresponding luminous flux values. This new category (D9S) is the first light source in R99 that has two defined power levels. When this dual-level light source is used in a headlamp which is being approved according to Regulation No. 98, the testing and approval provisions must be clearly defined in this Regulation to avoid misinterpretation. Therefore, it is proposed to amend the relevant paragraphs of Regulation No. 98 to take into account the multi-level aspects of D9S and possible future multi-level light sources in Regulation No. 99.
This proposal (WP.29/2015/80), Not amended, was adopted by the World Forum. Thirty-seven Contracting Parties out of the 43 applying UN R98 were present for the vote by AC.1. Thirty-seven voted in favor with zero against and zero abstaining.
