UN IWG CLIV presented a draft UN R regulation proposal for buses at May UN GRSP session covering physical inspection system with no sensing required. Discussions on light vehicle regulation, paused since early 2026, can now resume. Light vehicles will have sensing related performance requirements. ISO CPD surrogates availability will be crucial to implement the regulation. UN IWG CLIV will hold a 4-day workshop from 08–11 September, likely at UTAC/France, focusing on light vehicles, welcoming ISO CPD expert participation and presentations on ISO CPD status and test tools.
The agenda includes feedback from the June GRSP session on the submitted draft UN Regulation, next progression of work for light vehicle drafting and consideration of a September face-to-face meeting.
The Informal Working Group on Advanced Emergency Braking System held its 2nd meeting on 18 June 2026. Australia had submitted documents GRVA/2026/21 and GRVA-25-36 proposing amendments to UN R152. For para. 2.14, the group agreed to insert a footnote stating “this value is understood to be a minimum value,” with a working document to be prepared for next GRVA. For para. 5.2.1.1, Australia withdrew its proposal to remove the 0.8s TTC warning condition after safety concerns were raised. CLEPA-OICA, UK and Australia will prepare a clarification proposal for next GRVA.
The agenda includes GRVA decision to refer GRVA-2026-21 and GRVA-25-36 to the IWG on AEBS, proposals to amend UN R152 paragraphs 2.14, 5.2.1.1 and 5.2.1.2 per documents ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2026/21 and GRVA-25-36, other business, action items and next meetings scheduled 24–25 September 2026 and 2–4 November 2026.
The task force reviewed draft technical requirements for ADS-ML (ADS marker lamps) as presented in AVSR-31-02 and discussed a hybrid regulation draft in AVSR-31-03. Key discussions addressed substitution of conventional functions, visibility requirements, installation specifications for vehicles of category M1 and N1, and deletion of response time requirements. Trailers were deleted from the scope. The taskforce agreed to further work on the hybrid regulation with a 32nd intermediate meeting scheduled for 7 July 2026 and a 33rd meeting in Tokyo in September 2026.
