3.6.1. Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) (Seventy-sixth session, 2–6 December 2024)

36. The representative of the US, on behalf of the Chair of GRSP, reported on the results of the 76th session of GRSP (for details, see the report in ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/76).

37. He reported on the progress of IWG on UN GTR No. 20, Phase 2 under the extension it was granted at the March 2024 session of WP.29. Given the progress of IWG, he requested one more extension to allow the IWG to complete its work by March 2026. WP.29 endorsed this extension.

38. The representative of the Republic of Korea highlighted a GRSP discussion on electric vehicles caught on fire and the difficulties of opening doors activated electrically and suggested that this should be considered further. The representative of the US informed WP.29 that IWG was currently compiling a list of further topics related to electric vehicle safety and would consider this issue.

39. WP.29 endorsed an extension of IWG on Safe Transport of Children in Buses and Coaches until December 2025.

40. WP.29 noted that GRSP had adopted the status report and new terms of reference for Phase 2 of IWG on safety of Children Left in Vehicles and had agreed on the extension of the IWG mandate until May 2027, which WP.29 endorsed.

41. Finally, WP.29 noted that GRSP had re-elected Mr. M. Koubek (United States of America) as Chair and Mr. H. G. Kim (Republic of Korea) as Vice-Chair for the year 2025. It had also elected Mr. V. Calzadilla García (Spain) as Vice-Chair for the year 2025.
