2. Amendments to regulations on buses and coaches

The Working Party on General Safety Provisions (GRSG) is expected to be informed by the Chair of the Informal Working Group (IWG) about the outcome of the most recent meetings on the behaviour of the general construction of M2 and M3 vehicles in a fire event (BMFE).

2. (a) UN Regulation No. 107 (M2 and M3 vehicles)

GRSG may wish to be informed by GRSP on the outcome of recent meetings of IWG on “Securing of Children in buses and coaches” developping a UN Regulation under the 1958 Agreement.

GRSG may also wish to consider a proposal by IWG on BMFE to amend the provisions of UN Regulation No. 107, if available.

GRSG agreed to resume consideration of a request by Spain (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2020/2 based on GRSG-117-03) on a proposal for an amendment to UN Regulation No. 107 aiming at prevention of movements of vehicles of categories M2 and M3 whilst their lifts or ramps were used.

The aim is to guarantee that the vehicle remains stopped whilst the lifts or the ramps are being used.

GRSG agreed to continue the consideration of specifications on autonomous shuttles with a view of reviewing the applicability of existing requirements or creating a new categories of these vehicles.

GRSG may wish to consider a proposal by IWG on BMFE to amend the provisions of UN Regulation No. 118, if available.

GRSG agreed to revisit document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2019/93 based on an amended proposal ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2020/15 submitted by International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).

4. Amendments to safety glazing regulations

GRSG will be informed by the Chair of IWG on Panoramic Sunroof Glazing (PSG) about the work progress on safety glazing with respect to new provisions on “ceramic printed areas”. GRSG may wish to consider an IWG proposal on a draft Mutual Resolution No. [4].

It contains the provisions and harmonized test procedures for the maximum measurement of Ceramic Printed Area (CPA) of each single toughened safety glass pane of a Panoramic Sunroof Glazing, which is touchable from inside the passenger area.

5. Awareness of the proximity of Vulnerable Road Users

GRSG will be informed by the Chair of IWG on Awareness of Vulnerable Road Users proximity (VRU-Proxi) about the group’s outcome on the multimodal approach on the basis of direct or indirect vision devices (or a combination of both), camera monitor systems or obstacle detection systems as contained in the draft for a new UN Regulation No. [XXX] for reversing motion and motor vehicles with regard to the driver’s awareness of vulnerable road users behind vehicles (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2020/4).

9. UN Regulation No. 93 (Front underrun protection)

GRSG agreed to resume considerations on a proposal by the European Commission to update the provisions on frontal underrun protection which are approved as an integrated part of the vehicle, in particular, to allow for a more rounded shape of the cab for a better aerodynamic performance (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2020/10 based on ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2019/19, as amended GRSG-117-48).

This proposal would define the forward reference point as being the same transverse location where the force is applied. This results in FUPs where (in the case of cab fronts that are curved) at least 400 mm must be maintained along the front contour of the cab, instead of the foremost point. The proposal includes transitional provisions from 1 September 2020.

GRSG may wish to be informed on the establishment of the task force on the definition of keys.
