The expert from the Russian Federation, chairing the IWG on AECS, reported on the work results achieved by the group and the difficulties in harmonizing telecommunication issues (e.g. communication module and antenna, data transmission and security, exchange protocol etc.). He underlined the need to go forward in several stages. He informed GRSG about the IWG’s decision to develop, as a first step, a draft UN Regulation on accident emergency call devices with a scope limited to the use or installation of such devices on vehicles but not covering the telecommunication functionalities. Nevertheless, the functionalities of such accident emergency call devices should comply with the national/regional telecommunication regulations.
