Proposal to amend UN GTR No. 1 to introduce requirements for emergency door opening. The amendment addresses safety concerns arising from electrically operated door opening systems by requiring that power-assisted latch release controls, unlock controls, and door opening systems remain capable of functioning after main power supply loss for at least 60 minutes by means of secondary mechanical means, active secondary power supply, or fail-safe systems. The amendment also introduces definitions for latch release control, door handle, retractable door handle, unlock, unlatch, power loss, vehicle master control switch, and main power supply; requires latch release controls and door handles to be intuitive and unobstructed; and establishes interior and exterior test procedures to verify compliance with power loss requirements.
