Proposal to - insert provisions for the use of incandescent light sources in the case of light source modules and lamps with non-replaceable light sources,
- update the Conformity of Production requirements (CoP),
- reference the compliance requirements for installation contained in Regulations Nos. 48, 53, 72 and 86, as warranted,
- clarify the definition of “type”, with regard to manufacturer, trade names and marks,
- introduce editorial improvements to the requirements for markings,
- correct an oversight in Supplement 24 to the 01 series of amendments and align the treatment of categories 1, 1a and 1b with other categories and devices.
- align the text in the header row of the table in paragraph 6.1 (light emitted by the lamps) with the definitions used in Regulation No. 48 for the installation of “single lamps”, “lamps marked D” and “interdependent lamps”, and
- removes the requirement to indicate the rated wattage in the marking of lamps equipped with electronic light source control gear and/or non-replaceable light sources and/or light source module(s).
This supplement consolidates UN R6 prior to its being “frozen” and superseded by the new regulation on light-signalling devices prepared under the Simplification of Lighting Regulations program.

UN R6 | Revision 6 | Amendment 3 (2018)
Revision 6 | Amendment 3 has been prepared purely as documentation tool. The authentic and legally binding texts are WP.29/2017/73 and WP.29/2017/74. This document incorporates the following change:
01 series of amendments | Supplement 28 (entry into force: 10 Feb 2018)
Based upon the adopted proposals WP.29/2017/73 and WP.29/2017/74
Proposal to clarify the provisions for sequential activation of direction indicator lighting, especially concerning the interpretation of the phrase “one continuous line”. The proposal, developed by a special task force, clarifies the type definition and reduces the need for dividing sequential direction indicators into different types. This proposal revises the text to be more technology-neutral, removing specifications on how light sources are activated to focus on the visual performance as sequential lighting. The amendment of sub-paragraph 5.6.(c) of UN R6 clarifies what kind of vertical movement is not allowed in the sequential direction indicators, proposing a new new term “vertical oscillations” instead of the current wording “repeating alternation in the vertical direction”. The meaning is that not more than one change of direction upwards or downwards along the vertical axis is possible. The “continuous signal” is also defined in sub-paragraph 5.6.© of Regulation No. 6. The allowed distance between adjacent or tangential distinct parts is limited 50mm (which differs in this case from UN R48 specifications). Transitional provisions have been included.
Proposal to clarify the requirements for light sources in the lighting and light-signalling Regulations (including UN R6) listed in Annex 4 to Regulation No. 0 on the International Whole Vehicle Type Approval (IWVTA). The document title has been corrected to read “Supplement 28”.
