Document GRRF/2016/20 proposes to remove certain design restrictions that impede the application of new technologies, especially related to trailer power steering systems and the use of energy from the towing vehicle, including specification of the connector through which electrical energy is supplied in the proposal. Although this proposal was approved in principle at the 80th GRRF session, it was agreed that the proposal would be reviewed at the 81st GRRF to define an open value [X] in paragraph 2.1.1. of Annex 5. It has subsequently been concluded that this change to paragraph 2.1.1. is not needed. Therefore, this proposal removes the change to the paragraph from GRRF/2016/20.

Revised approach to resolving the issues raised in Romania’s proposal GRSG/2015/21 to redefine the measurement criteria for determining appropriate seat spacing. This proposal has been developed collaboratively by Romania, OICA, and CCLCR with respect to discussions held by the type approval authorities of the member states of the European Union (TAAM). The proposal includes the use of a new testing gauge for the H dimension measurement.

Proposal to amend document GRSG/2016/2 by replacing paragraph 1.2.2. rather than deleting it. Drawing from the recently approved amendment to UN R58 (document GRSG/2015/17), this proposal would amend paragraph 1.2.2. to read, “Vehicles where any LDP (e.g. fixed, removable, foldable, adjustable, etc.) is incompatible with their use on [traffic] roads may be partly or fully exempted from this Regulation, subject to the decision of the Type Approval Authority.”

Updated proposal, revised for clarity, to amend document GRSG/2016/2 by replacing paragraph 1.2.2. rather than deleting it. Proposal to expand the scope of the regulation by deleting paragraph 1.2.2. which allows for the exclusion of “vehicles designed and constructed for special purposes where it is not possible, for practical reasons, to fit lateral protection devices” from the text. The proposal allows Type Approval Authorities to nonetheless exempt “vehicles where any LPD (e.g. fixed, removable, foldable, adjustable, etc.) is incompatible with their on-road use” through the addition of new paragraphs.
