Attendance

1. The Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA) met on 24 June 2025 in Geneva, following consultations during an informal meeting hosted in Bangkok (Thailand) in the United Nations Conference Center of ESCAP during the Asia and Pacific Road Safety Week, 2-5 June 2025. The meeting was chaired by Mr. R. Damm (Germany). Accredited experts from the following countries participated in the work, following Rule 1 of the Rules of Procedure of the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/690/Rev.2): Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Congo (Republic of), Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Nigeria, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and United States of America. The European Commission also participated.

2. Experts from the following Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and international organizations participated: American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC), Association for Emissions Control and Climate (AECC), European Association for Electric Mobility (AVERE), European Agricultural Machinery Organization (CEMA), The International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA), European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA/MEMA/JAPIA), European Tyres and Rhim Technical Organization (ETRTO), European Association of Internal Combustion Engine Manufacturers (EUROMOT), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Automobile Federation (FIA), Fédération internationale des véhicules anciens (FIVA), International Council on Environmental Economics and Development Union (IC-EEDU), International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Road Federation (IRF Global), International Road Transport Union (IRU), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), SAE International and the World Bicycle Industry Association (WBIA).

3. The Chair recalled the special format of the twenty-second session held on 24 June 2025, which was preceded by informal consultations from 2 to 5 June 2025 during the Asia and Pacific Road Safety Week, co-organized by ECE and ESCAP. He reflected on the success of this informal meeting and the opportunities it provided for technical discussions and networking among experts from various groups meeting during the week, including GRVA, the Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1), the ESCAP Expert Group Meeting on Road Safety, and the Intergovernmental Working Group on Asian Highways. The week also featured a series of events organized by the United Nations Road Safety Fund, including the launch of its Annual Report during lunch on the first day, along with other events and a field visit related to lightweight helmets.

4. GRVA recalled that the Road Safety Week was opened by ESCAP, UNECE (via video), the Chairs of GRVA and WP.1, and representatives from Japan and Thailand. In line with the Inland Transport Committee’s decisions encouraging cooperation between GRVA and WP.1, GRVA organized several events to facilitate exchange and networking:

  1. GRVA organized exhibitions and technical demonstrations with the support of the Ministry of Transport of Thailand, featuring technologies from vehicle manufacturers in China and Europe. These demonstrations provided opportunities for expert exchange, involving a total of 20 vehicles;
  2. In addition, GRVA and the host country authority, the Kingdom of Thailand, organized a dinner that brought together many GRVA, WP.1, and road safety experts;
  3. GRVA scheduled an extended break on Thursday to allow GRVA experts to participate in WP.1 activities related to discussions on automation.

5. The Road Safety Week concluded with closing remarks from ESCAP, the Chairs of GRVA and WP.1, and the GRVA Secretary.
