The proposed new UN Regulation on Blind Spot Information Systems refers to this standard presently under development within ISO. The GRSG secretariat controls access to the working party participants.

Proposal to add a new symbol (as defined by IEC standard 60417-5009) for power on/off controls in electrified vehicles (e.g., electric or fuel cell vehicles).

Proposal to amend the transitional provisions in order to extend the use of the 06 and 07 series beyond 2022 for vehicles not affected by the 08 series of amendments (i.e., new interior fitting visual contrast requirements).

Proposal to exempt rear edges of fenders and rear edges of A pillars under certain conditions from the requirement that sheet metal edges be folded back or fitted with a shield. These edges not easily contacted by VRU in a collision could be blunted instead.

Proposal prepared by OICA per decisions by the task force on gas-fuelled vehicle regulations to resolve issues associated with periodic requalification of CNG cylinders. The proposal amends Annexes 3A and 3B, particularly to state “Contracting Parties requiring a more frequent (than every 48 months) or more stringent periodic requalification of cylinders may do so in accordance with the national or regional requirements.”

This proposal introduces transitional provisions into UN Regulation No. 110 should the proposals in document GRSG/2018/11 be adopted. GRSG/2018/11 would change the technical requirements for vehicles equipped with CNG compressors and/or accumulators and therefore would transitional provisions be applicable.

Proposal to redefine “key” to include “physical device or electronic solution”. At the same time, the proposal excludes “hardware (e.g. smartphone) provided by other than car manufacturer” from this definition.

This proposal introduces transitional provisions into UN Regulation No. 122 should the proposals in document GRSG/2018/21 be adopted. GRSG/2018/21 would change the technical requirements for vehicles equipped with heat pump heating systems and therefore, transitional provisions would be applicable.

Proposal to correct editorial and numbering errors and to clarify references to certain passive safety regulations in the original proposal (regarding the relationship between AECS and the presence of airbag systems in the vehicle).

In anticipation of improvements to truck-cab aerodynamics, this proposal would update Part III of UN R93 where the front under-run protection is integrated in the motor vehicle by defining the forward reference point as the same transverse location where the force is applied. This results in FUPs that, in the case of cab fronts that are curved, at least 400 mm must be maintained along the front contour of the cab, instead of the foremost point.

Proposal to enable to approval of vehicles equipped with mechanisms other than platforms intended to assist access by persons with reduced mobility. The purpose is to avoid hindering innovation in offering solutions to persons with reduced mobility. The proposal add “lift” to the examples of possible mechanisms and modifies the language to be less specific in references to “wheelchairs” to address persons with reduced mobility regardless of whether they use a wheelchair.

Proposal for an amendment to provide for the optional use of laminated-glass panes meeting mechanical strength requirements in front, exterior, forward-facing glazing of upper deck of double decked buses instead of laminated windscreen. This is in line with similar proposal discussed in 114th session of GRSG for UN Regulation No. 43.

Updated proposal for Class VIII field of vision and provisions for sonar systems. The updated proposal adds provisions for headrest position and draft text for transitional provisions under discussion with the VRU-Proxi Informal Working Group.

Presentation on rear vision systems for pedestrian protection.

In 2008 WP.29 adopted document WP.29/2008/98 under Supplement 3 to the 02 series of amendments, deleting all marking requirements and transferring them to Annex 11. Nonetheless, Revision 4 of UN R107 as published on the UNECE website erroneously includes the deleted paragraphs. This proposal aims to correct that error.

Please note that responsibility for coupling regulations (UN R55 and R147) has been transferred to GRSG from GRRF.

Annotated provisional agenda for the October 2018 GRSG session.

Proposal to introduce requirements for CNG compressor and CNG accumulator components designed to maintain stable pressure in fuel systems.

Proposal to allow the use of a generator fueled by the vehicle gaseous fuel system that provides electricity to run accessories (e.g., overnight power in sleeper cabs, to maintain battery charge during high electrical power use with loading or lifting equipment). This proposal would allow for the use of LNG/CNG from vehicle fuel tanks and thereby reduce the potential need to vent gas into the air in response to pressure buildup due to warming over time by using the gas to power other devices and equipment.

Proposal to amend and clarify the need for a gas flow adjuster under UN R110 with regard to the use of carburetors and fuel injectors. A gas flow adjuster is not necessary when an electronic fuel injection system manages the air/fuel mixture and therefore should be removed from paragraph 18.3.1. An adjuster is needed when air/fuel mixture runs via a carburetor and therefore should be added to paragraph 18.3.2.

Proposal to remove references to European radio frequency standards (paragraphs 6.2.3., 7.2.3. and 8.2.2.). Telecommunications devices must meet requirements specific to local markets. Therefore, the references to standards specific to European markets (but not other markets) fall outside the purview of UN Regulations.

Proposal to expand the scope of the regulation on unauthorized L-category vehicle use to include electronic devices such as keyless entry systems, similarly to what already exists in UN R116 on passenger car use.

Proposal to require, in instances where ogive protective covers are fitted to a cylinder, that the covers be removed before conducting the impact damage (drop) test.

Proposal to introduce a generic drawing to clarify the requirements applicable to elements of windscreen wipers.

Proposal to amend geometrical criteria (dimensions and distances between lateral protection devices) and installation provisions for lateral protection barriers in order to improve their performance with regard to vulnerable road users. The proposal would

1. increase the maximum distance between lateral rails from 300 mm to 400 mm
2. redefine the limits for the lower edge from “550 mm above the ground” to definition via an isosceles triangle formed by lines drawn at 8° from the ground contact points of the vehicle tires intersecting at point “I” above the road surface where the maximum limit “I” is between 350-450 mm
3. define the upper edge as from 450 mm rather than 300 mm maximum from the vehicle structure or maximum height of the upper edge above the ground from 950 mm to 850 mm
4. update the horizontal static force requirement for lateral protection devices to 3 kN and the deflection under load criteria to 90 mm over the rearmost 250 mm of the device and 450 mm over the remainder of the device.

Proposal to clarify the positioning of lateral protection devices on central axle trailers

Proposal to insert type (item 1.1.) and pressure classification (item 1.2.) in the communication form (Annex 2B).

Proposal to introduce provisions for interior heating systems using heat pumps.

Proposal to clarify the requirements for electric heaters by limiting possibilities for exemptions applicable to interior heating systems supplied by several electrical elements.

Text prepared by the Informal Working Group on Awareness of Vulnerable Road Users proximity in low speed manoeuvres (VRU-Proxi) to establish a new UN Regulation on Blind Spot Information Systems (BSIS) intended to be fitted to heavy goods vehicles.

Proposal to clarify that anti-theft-related vehicle components such as keys are not subject to the environmental tests (section 6.4.) of UN R116 which were established for components embedded in the vehicle.

Proposal to strike “sur un montage rigide” from paragraph 6 (Essai effectué sur un montage rigide/sur un véhicule/sur des parties représentatives du châssis d’un véhicule²) in order to align the French version with the English and Russian versions of the text.

Proposal to correct Revision 2 of UN R55 to align with the text of Supplement 04 to 01 series of amendments. This proposal removes a subparagraph under paragraph 13.1 that should not have been included in the Revision.

Annex 1 of UN R55 concerns the type approval communication form. Item 9.3. requires information “For Class A mechanical coupling devices or components, including towing brackets”. Poland proposes to add “if applicable” to the description in order to avoid interpretations that brackets must be part of the approval (i.e., the approval may concern the coupling ball without additional attachments).
