GRVA authorized a workshop on categorization of automated urban shuttles" during its 26th session in September 2026. The workshop aims to gather a wide range of stakeholders involved or interested in automated urban shuttles, in the perspective of a possible categorization of these vehicles within WP.29.

The workshop will cover:

  • Market for automated urban shuttles: existing designs, features, and use cases
  • Existing vehicle categories and overlap with the intended scope for automated urban shuttles
  • Potential category limits and which limits should be within a WP.29 definition or at a regional/national level
  • Presence or absence of any particular safety risks for automated urban shuttles
  • Categorization options within the 1958 and/or 1998 Agreement (such as: new category e.g. ‘P’, new sub-category e.g. ‘M4’, new class e.g. ‘Class C’, redefinition of an existing sub-category or class e.g. ‘M2/M3 Class A’, new ad-hoc special category e.g. ‘Z’)
