83. The Chair of the IWG on A-LCA, representative of Japan, introduced GRPE-94-49. He requested to postpone the consideration by GRPE of ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2026/2 to forthcoming sessions of GRPE.
84. The representative of CLEPA recalled a recent presentation from both OICA and CLEPA on the need for a harmonized proposal on the topic of automotive LCA. He noted some contracting parties were not in a position to commit to the timing included in the ToRs of the IWG on A-LCA and drew the attention of GRPE on the criticality of the timing to finalize a proposal.
85. The representative of Germany reminded the need for this work to deliver to reduce the administrative burden, avoid disparities, and the work of this IWG could be beneficial to all and invited to use the great opportunity offered.
86. The representative of Japan expressed disappointment the proposal could not be adopted, and showed gratitude to the Republic of Korea and to the co-chair that unfortunately decided to step down from co-chairmanship.
87. The representative of the Republic of Korea highlighted their internal deadline for a LCA procedure by the end of 2026. He wished a final proposal could be adopted by GRPE in October 2026. He asked about the potential progress to be made in the EU by June 2026. He thanked the leadership of the IWG on A-LCA and showed confidence that consensus would be achieved in order to fulfil the national timeline in the Republic of Korea.
88. The representative of the EC thanked the IWG for its work, stressing the complexity of harmonizing an LCA methodology internationally. He noted that the EC remained committed to continued engagement in the IWG, while recalling that the comments by Commission services do not prejudge future positions or decisions of the EC. He replied to another contracting party that the work within the EU on a voluntary LCA methodology is independent from the UNECE process.
89. The representative of the US acknowledged and valued the re-organization of the activities in order to solve remaining topics in an agile and timely manner.
